Public schools serve over 80% of South Dakota students, welcoming everyone.
Voucher programs redirect public taxpayer dollars to cover the cost
of education for a select few at private, often religious, schools,
diverting resources away from the public school system.
Tell Your Lawmakers
Voucher programs redirect public funds from our public schools to pay for the education of a small number of students at private, mostly religious institutions. We shouldn’t be required to use public funds to support religious education, yet that’s exactly what these programs do. Private voucher schools frequently refuse to admit or may even expel students with disabilities or special needs. Public funds should be used to support public schools, not to fund institutions that discriminate.
